President Ford

Heather and I were flipping through the channels on her parents TV last night and ran across news of President Gerald Ford's death last evening.

He was oldest living former president in history at 93, and was the only president we ever had that was not elected to the Presidency or the Vice-Presidency. He may have had a harder term of service than any other president in our history. He dealt with a new and strong distrust of the executive office after Nixon's presidency and the war in Vietnam.

I heard little good about Ford's presidency by professors in school, but I do know he was a good golfer!

Gerald Ford. 1913-2006.

Later guys,
Matt

Yeah i read that this morning in the times and was kind of shocked. I had never really followed him that much and didn't realize he had lived for so long. 93 years is a long life! As far as the quality of his presidency, from what I understand, the simple fact that he was able to handle the nixon fiasco so quietly was an important accomplishment. I suppose it depends upon your view of presidential pardons...

I think he did a great job. His decision to pardon Nixon was important in the long run, but very unpopular then, thus the reason he lost the next election.

He is not the president that Reagan was, but he was a good president in the big picture! Can't wait to see you Sun. night!

I heard from my 91 year old friend that he was a "horrible golfer"

ford was also an outstanding football player at the U of M. He was scouted by the Packers and the Lions.

watching college bowls yesterday, they had the NCAA commercial on that showed great NCAA players of the past and had what they did beyond sports. They had a picture of Ford on there and obviously had the word "President" across the screen.
